Goleman Quote Reflection

Goleman uses the bird as a metaphor to explain the necessary requisites to being a good leader. Just like a bird a leader needs two wings if he wishes to soar to new levels of success. The first wing a leader need is the wing of IQ. As discussed in class a leader has to have the mental capacity to lead. He has to understand what he is leading, the mechanics of everything if you will. However the second wing, the wing of heart and feeling, proves the most overlooked and yet most important wing necessary to the flight of the leader. The leader has to have EQ. The person leading has to not only understand what he is leading but also who he is leading. He has to have the social skills and self awareness to motivate those who follow him to new heights. Thus, Goleman is arguing that a leader needs both IQ and EQ if he truly wishes to realize his vision or goal. This explains why Bea Salazar and Diane have achieved so much. Bea has the wing of feeling and heart while Diane has the wing of thought and head. Together they are a bird where the sky's the limit.
